WHAT IS IN THE COURSE?
The course includes 17 video lessons on an array of topics; including consent, puberty, online safety, play dates, sleepovers, porn, the 'sex talk', abuse, stranger danger, media literacy and more! This course is aimed at parents of 4-12 year olds, although the content is still relevant for teenagers, and to get prepared ahead of time if you have littler ones.
You will have access to the 2.5 hours of video and audio recordings to engage at your own pace, and in your own time.
Each lesson has accompanying practical resources including conversation starters and scripts, book recommendations and helpful links.
WHY INVEST IN THE COURSE?
The current landscape our children are navigating can be overwhelming, for both parents and kids. Here's a few stats on why we need to get equipped for conversations with them...
More than one in four females and almost one in ten males reported that they had been touched in a sexual way or made to do sexual things that they did not want to do.
Around 90 percent of child sexual abuse is committed by someone known to the child or their family.
91% of 11-year-olds now have a smart phone.
70% of child sexual abuse image reports with a 7-10 year old child were self-generated (made by the child and sent to someone online).
As parents, it is no longer a matter of whether we want to have conversations with them about porn, sex, and harm...it is that we must have these conversations, and much sooner than most expect.
MY PROMISE TO YOU
As a parent myself, I know what it is like to have limited time and capacity. My promise to you is you will leave feeling more confident in what to say, how to bring it up, what key messages to communicate, as well as practical strategies to support your children. I promise that this will be worth your time.
I can't promise that some of what I share, whether it's research or strategies, wont feel uncomfortable or overwhelming at some points. But I promise you will not stay in that space.
As new research is released and new strategies are developed, I will update the resources accompanying the course.
WHAT MAKES THIS COURSE DIFFERENT?
There are a lot of great resources online, and there is a lot of parenting advice - arguably too much.
I don't want to add to the noise, I want to simplify it. I wanted parents to stop having to search over and over again for the right book, the right professional, the right language to use.
This course is not just a condensing of information, but also comes from lived experience. I have personally sat with children to understand their trauma, I have sat with adults understanding what went wrong with their sex education, I have spent years researching sexual health and sexualised media. I am also continuing to parent my own children through this landscape, answering their unique and challenging questions.
I also place a high value on staying up to date with trends and research. This course is evidence based, and resources will continue to be improved and developed as best practice evolves.

MEET YOUR GUIDE
Jo Robertson
Growing up, I had a number of unsafe sexual experiences. Whilst these were challenging, they sparked in me a curiosity about where people got their templates for what sex and relationships should be like.
I have now spent 17 years researching, counselling and training professionals in this space to find the answer. I taught sex education in high schools for 7 years, I worked as a child/adolescent trauma therapist, I worked with couples on their childhood narratives of sex and how that was impacting their life now. I have spent the last 7 years researching porn, sexualised media, illegal online content and the impacts on young people.
I have a post graduate diploma in counselling and a master of science, in medicine, specialising in sex therapy. I have spoken internationally on the way our current generations understanding of sex, consent, and relationships have changed in the last 30 years, and what we need to do to support them.
I am also raising my own children in this complicated landscape, trying to keep them safe both online and offline. At this point in my career, I can confidently say I’ve done the work, I know my stuff. Join me on this course, and you will too.
